This recital by pianist Alexei Volodin kicks off a new series, “From Tutti to Solo,” presented in partnership with La Filature, Scène nationale. Some of the guest soloists featured in the ONM’s season will extend their stay beyond the symphonic concerts for these special performances.
Following the symphonic concerts *La métamorphose du destin*, in which Alexei Volodin performs in dialogue with the Orchestre National de Mulhouse, this Sunday recital offers a more intimate experience, focusing on the artist alone, accompanied by a few fellow musicians. For this exceptional recital, pianist Alexei Volodin, a guest of the symphonic season, extends his stay with the Orchestra for a unique chamber music performance alongside two musicians from the Orchestra, Leslie Thouret and Mi Zhou.
These programs are characterized by musical dialogue, shared virtuosity, and the collaboration between a leading international soloist and the talents of the Orchestra. Ludwig van Beethoven takes center stage here with two major works from his piano repertoire: the famous Sonata No. 8, “Pathétique,” driven by a striking dramatic intensity, followed by Sonata No. 26 “The Farewell,” a more intimate and deeply expressive work centered on the themes of separation and return. In the second half, two musicians from the orchestra, Leslie Thouret and Mi Zhou, will join Alexei Volodin for a trio for piano, violin, and cello. Together, they will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s luminous “Les Esprits” Trio, famous for its slow movement with its mysterious undertones.
