4 of France’s favourite villages

Since 2012, in the France 2 show Le village préféré des Français, 4 Alsatian villages have been elected: Eguisheim, Kaysersberg, Hunspach and Bergheim. These villages, located mainly in the Haut-Rhin, except Hunspach, all offer an authentic Alsatian experience where you can discover the architectural and gastronomic riches of this so rich region.

Eguisheim

Elected in 2013

Located along the wine route, Eguisheim is a typical Alsatian village, just as one imagines it. The historical center of the village is a real labyrinth of streets and squares that will take you through the centuries.

Come and stroll through the alleys to admire the colorful houses and discover its castle around which the village was built in concentric circles.

Kaysersberg

Elected in 2017

Kaysersberg is a charming village located in the vineyards not far from Colmar. It is known for its medieval architecture, its vineyard, its castle. The latter was built in the 13th century and proudly dominates the village. It also offers a breathtaking view of the village and the surrounding vineyards.

Walking through the historical center, you will discover cobblestone streets, half-timbered houses, lively places as well as historical places: a fortified bridge, the birthplace of Dr. Albert Schweitzer (Nobel Peace Prize in 1952) or the Sainte-Croix church.

Hunspach

Elected in 2020

Surrounded by beautiful countryside, Hunspach is the only one of France’s favorite Alsatian villages to be located in the north of the region. This charming village is known for its traditional half-timbered architecture and cobblestone streets.
The colorful wooden houses add a charming touch to its peaceful atmosphere. Come and stroll through its narrow streets and enjoy a typical Alsatian atmosphere.

Bergheim

Elected in 2022

Located in the Alsatian vineyards, Bergheim is the capital of Gewurtztraminer. This medieval village is still surrounded by its 14th century ramparts. In this setting, you can discover many colorful half-timbered houses decorated, in summer, with the traditional geraniums.
