Description

A late work by Thomas Bernhard, *Minetti* is a solitary journey from shadow to light, from death to life. The Austrian author’s meticulous and witty writing makes it a magnificent fable, straddling comedy and tragedy. One New Year’s Eve in Ostend in 1975, a man enters the lobby of a grand hotel. He says his name is Minetti and that he has an appointment with a theater director. He claims to be a famous actor who hasn’t performed in three decades because he rejected classical literature. He says he once ran a theater from which he was ousted. And that he had been waiting for someone to offer him the chance to play King Lear one last time. Having rehearsed in front of his mirror for thirty years, he is ready. Tonight, on the occasion of his theater’s anniversary, the director has arranged to meet with him to invite him to play Lear one last time… Matthieu Cruciani has chosen to set Thomas Bernhard’s play to music here, with the participation of pianist Jeanne Bleuse and actress-singer Élise Caron. The performance by the brilliant Belgian actor Josse de Pauw makes for a powerful, moving, and timeless theatrical experience. Ages 14 and up. De 6 à 30 €
