Symphony Concert: The Birth of a Master

From Youth to Maturity: The Evolution of a Master of Classical Music’s Talent. About fifteen years separate the “Youth Symphony”—the first movement of a symphony that would never be completed—from the Second Symphony. But between the 18-year-old student who composed in secret from his piano teacher (who believed he was wasting his talent) and the most colossal work of his mature period—later scaled back to more conventional proportions—a fascinating journey unfolds: that of a composer who, following the success of his illustrious Second Concerto, began to overcome his doubts and assert his personal voice—the voice of a romantic lost in a modern world in the throes of upheaval. Program: Sergei Rachmaninoff Early Symphony Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 18 Symphony No. 2 33 €
