Description

At age seven, Mathieu’s life is turned upside down by the arrival of his little brother… Before that, everything was going well for him. He adored his big brother, Elio, and his mom had eyes only for him. Since then, nothing has been the same… This funny and tender fable—a new collaboration between author Antonio Carmona and director Olivier Letellier, an artist affiliated with La Filature, Scène nationale—explores the familiar feeling of sibling jealousy but also takes the question further, into a different realm: that of our relationship with others, with the world, and with strangers. This question surfaces in the language and accent of Adalberto Fernandez-Torres, the circus contortionist who shares the stage with actor Jérôme Fauvel and takes on most of the roles other than that of Mathieu. Olivier Letellier’s direction offers multiple layers of interpretation, blending humor and poetry with a light touch, without oversimplifying the themes explored. Told from a child’s perspective, this simple yet subtle story offers moments full of humor as well as a scene bordering on the fantastical, which elicits laughter and just the right amount of fear to appreciate the return to reality.
