Lecture: The Arrival of the Daguerreotype in Alsace

  • Conference
Musée des Beaux-Arts, 4 place Guillaume Tell, 68100 Mulhouse

Description

Although photography, in its earliest form—the daguerreotype process—spread from Paris to major urban centers as soon as it was unveiled in 1839, it had a hard time taking root—or failed to take root at all—in certain remote regions. In Alsace, its arrival was meteoric, particularly in Mulhouse. How and why? That is what Christian Kempf—photographer, collector, and photography historian—will explain during this lecture. Reservations are recommended by phone or email. Only in French. Free
