Guided Tour: An Underground Village

  • Guided tour
Brasserie de Lutterbach, 6 rue du Houblon, 68460 Lutterbach

Description

Step inside the old cellars of the Lutterbach brewery and immerse yourself in a little-known chapter of the village’s history. Guided by the Lutterbach Historical Society, you’ll explore part of the 4,000 m² of cellars, the last remaining vestiges of the brewery that operated from 1861 to 1968. You’ll learn about their role in beer production and storage, as well as the history of this site, which was once at the heart of local life. But these cellars also served a very different purpose. During the winter of 1944–1945, nearly 1,500 residents of Lutterbach took refuge there for two months to protect themselves from daily bombings. The tour explores this significant period and the daily lives of those who lived underground, sheltered from the fighting. Reservations are required via email. Maximum of 20 people. Free
