Description
Through the lens of photographer Patrick Baeumlin, step into the heart of the final moments of Texunion, the last major textile mill in the Mulhouse region. In 1999, as the Pfastatt factory prepared to turn the page on nearly two centuries of industrial history, the photographer was invited to capture this iconic site and the people who still brought it to life every day.
Through its images, the exhibition reveals much more than an industrial site. It captures the gestures, the glances, the machines, the workshops, but above all the deep bonds that unite the workers to their factory—a mix of attachment, pride, anger, and nostalgia. This sensitive and deeply human account captures the final months of a flagship of Alsatian textile printing at a pivotal moment in its history.
Presented for the first time in Mulhouse, this photographic work naturally finds its place at the Museum of Printed Textiles. When Texunion closed in 2001, the museum had in fact preserved the company’s precious archives: sample books, drawings, and textile pieces representing more than three million patterns. The exhibition thus offers a complementary and moving perspective on this exceptional legacy.
As a photographer, author, and traveler, Patrick Baeumlin has spent decades developing a body of work focused on the women, men, and regions he encounters. His work on Texunion now stands as a rare and valuable testament to the industrial heritage of the Mulhouse region and to the history of a craft that has shaped the identity of an entire region.
