Sondos Belhassen and Héla Fattoumi are two radiant figures in contemporary performing arts. These radiant artists share the story of their lives on stage—one spent in France, the other in Tunisia, their country of birth. In their tête-à-tête, a clear connection unfolds, like a twin-like bond, a sincere sisterhood. For more than thirty-five years, they have pursued parallel careers as dancers, choreographers, and actresses, without ever crossing paths. With TWAMA (“twins” in Arabic), their voices and bodies come together to evoke, with joy and lightness, what they have already experienced and everything that makes up their shared memory. They explore the contours and limits of identity and question societal expectations. They speak of exile and returning home, of their personal Arab-Muslim culture—known, lived, dreamed of, rediscovered... The performance is infused with popular imagery, pop culture figures, movement, and music. Dance and costumes set the stage ablaze with both power and grace.
