Description
This year, the ensemble *Chant sacré*, conducted by Luc Brinkert, will present its traditional All Saints’ Day concert featuring the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. The Cantor’s music has, in fact, been the daily bread of this Mulhouse-based ensemble, which has been dedicated to sacred music for nearly 140 years!
The program features excerpts from the Mass in B minor, serving as a preview of next December’s concert, which will be entirely devoted to the festive sections of this major work.
It also includes two beautiful cantatas:
Cantata 82, *Ich habe genug* (*I am content*), for bass soloist, evokes through its intimate character the joy of the elderly Simeon at the thought of dying after having seen the Messiah in the infant Jesus.
Cantata No. 146, *Wir müssen durch viel Trübsal* (“We Must Endure Many Tribulations”), opens with a sumptuous orchestral passage based on the composer’s famous Concerto in D minor, which here replaces the harpsichord with the organ. This is followed by a chorus of poignant sadness—a lament over the sufferings of the world—which the solo arias transform into the joyful anticipation of a heavenly life free from all suffering.
