The 14th Fête de la Transhumance de Muhlbach-sur-Munster is organized by the Comité des fêtes de Muhlbach-sur-Munster with the participation of several local associations. It invites you on Saturday, October 4, 2025 to celebrate the descent of herds of cows to the valley's farms, after their summer sojourn in the heights of the Vosges mountains.
The herds will stop at Muhlbach-sur-Munster, coming from the valleys of Munster, Saint-Amarin and La Bresse. The procession of Vosges, Alpine and other browns promises to be a colorful affair: some 200 animals will noisily cross the village streets to the sound of clarines and toupins. You'll be able to join them along the way.
This day of festivities is an opportunity to take part in an astonishing folk show, to celebrate Marcaire folklore and traditions, and to discover the Vosges breed of cows being honored on this occasion. Throughout the day, in the heart of the village, all around the sports hall, you'll be able to enjoy activities linked to the traditions of the Marcaires and the Vosges.
The most courageous can follow the descent of the cows from the Gaschney station parking lot with the Firstmiss farm inn, meeting at 1pm. Please note that there will be no shuttle bus service to get you there. Once the descent is complete, walkers will be able to join the festival to enjoy its many attractions..
Programme 2025:
- 9:30 am: Ecumenical celebration with choristers, alp horns and Hautes Chaumes ringers in the Protestant church of Muhlbach-sur-Munster.
- 10am and all day: entertainment in and around the sports hall, the Schlitte museum (visit €3) and in front of the stadium. You'll be able to wait while discovering some 70 stalls featuring artists and craftsmen: woodworking, clogmakers, saddlers, craft clubs, earthenware objects, folk costume making, farm equipment displays, presentation of the Vosges breed, distillation. Local produce market: cheeses, charcuterie, breads, syrups, honey and jams, fruit juices... Children's entertainment
- From 10am: Musical entertainment by various groups: Alpine horns, folk dances...
- 11am-4pm: the first cows must be present in the village streets by 11am, the others will arrive in stages until 4pm *..

Dogs are welcome, but we invite you to avoid approaching the herds with your four-legged companion, as this could disturb the cows.
At 11:30am: Munster soup tasting in front of the Schlitte Museum and Catering available along the route.
On the Menu:
* Full marcaire meal: Tourte salad, Collet smoked, roïgabraggeldis, Trio of valley cheeses and Dessert (blueberry tart or siasskas) - 27€ / person - lunch and dinner by reservation
* Country menu: Mountain platter with assorted charcuterie and cheeses, crudités, roïgabraggeldis (stewed potato), Dessert (blueberry tart or siasskas) - 27€ / person - evening only on reservation
* Choice of local dishes, such as: salad pie, peasant sausage, potato salad, smoked collet and roiggabraggeldis, salad, siasskas (fresh cheese of the day) or tart.
The meal will be enjoyed on site in the sports hall or under the various marquees hosted by local associations. You'll be able to sample real Marcaire menus, and cheeses and charcuterie crafted at an altitude of 1,000 meters. A refreshment bar will also be on site.
