Lecture - Cloistered life in Mulhouse in the late Middle Ages

  • Conference
Musée Historique de Mulhouse, place de la Réunion, 68100 Mulhouse
David Bourgeois holds a PhD in medieval history and is a member of the Centre de Recherche sur les Economies, les Sociétés, les Arts et les Techniques (CRESAT) at the Université de Haute-Alsace. He is also President of the Société d'Histoire et de Géographie de Mulhouse.

Research into the life of a Mulhouse nun has highlighted the living conditions of a specific community within the urban population on the eve of the Reformation. What were the material living conditions of the nuns in Mulhouse? What were their destinies after the introduction of the Reformation? These are just some of the questions that will help to shed light on certain social transformations at the end of the medieval period, in Mulhouse of course, but also on the scale of the Upper Rhine.
