Running between La Kunsthalle and La Filature in Mulhouse, this two-part exhibition invites us to rediscover what we no longer see: our everyday lives. Behind familiar objects, the materials we touch and the gestures we repeat every day, lies a world that has become invisible: the world of manufacturing, of the hand and of the living.
Inspired by the reflections of sociologist Geneviève Pruvost in Quotidien politique (La Découverte, 2024), the exhibition explores this distance that industrialized society has widened between us and what surrounds us. Through sensitive and attentive works, artists reinvest this intimate territory: they revive simple gestures, revisit ancient know-how, experiment with the resources available in their immediate environment.
Their vision, at once poetic and political, reinvents our connection to the world, inviting us to slow down, observe and feel.
Together, their creations form Le souffle de la subsistance, an immersive journey that questions our relationship with matter, nature and care, and reminds us that our daily lives, however ordinary, can once again become a shared, conscious and vibrant living space.
