Christiane Fath lets color take over on fabrics weathered by time and steeped in family history. A painter based in La Réunion, she transforms household linen - often from her own trousseau - into vast fields of expression. She traces, prints and composes freely, mixing borrowed techniques with invented protocols. Each piece retains the original dimensions of the fabric, and becomes an inhabited surface, traversed by autobiographical fragments: African landscapes, the Mediterranean rim, moucharabieh motifs, Parisian lines and perimeters... Everything is superimposed, like a traveling memory.
In Strasbourg, François Bauer calls himself a potter. He shapes utilitarian objects, yes, but he also paints, and even becomes an architect when he constructs, deconstructs, organizes plans and juxtaposes colors. Between surface and volume, he seeks balance where you least expect it, daring surprising combinations, pushing the earth towards daring arrangements. His pieces remain practicable while allowing themselves to be diverted, supports for a painting nourished by memories, family heirlooms, and an assumed taste for fauve paint, bright colors and flowers.
Reunited in Mulhouse, Christiane Fath and François Bauer form an original duo and take over the whole of La Kunsthalle, right down to its architectural details. Together, they have imagined an immersive installation where you can literally "take your time". Paintings, ceramics, decorations, furniture: everything works together, everything dialogues, like elements of the same interior landscape. Many of the pieces were created especially for the exhibition, with a simple, precious idea in mind: to create a space of pleasure and well-being, conducive to daydreaming. Here, we bask, linger, slow down and enjoy ourselves. An invitation to travel, a generous interlude, where art holds time and offers its happiest moments.
