Mulhouse Christmas Market

Christmas in Mulhouse is the magic and authenticity of a traditional Alsatian Christmas market.

Located in the heart of the historic center, it pays homage to the rich epic of textiles in Mulhouse: each year, a fabric is created especially for the event.

The Land of Christmas Fabrics

Mulhouse is also the capital of the Pays des Etoffes, which extends from the foot of the Ballon des Vosges to the Alsatian Jura. It is based on the textile tradition, deeply rooted in the territory. Echoing this tradition and to perpetuate it, the Tourist Offices of the Pays organize different textile workshops including “La Minute Textile”, a short workshop allowing to create a textile postcard, whose illustration is made by a new local designer every year.

The Christmas Cloth

Every year, the City of Mulhouse publishes a new exclusive fabric, whose design it entrusts to a local textile designer. It adorns the City Hall, decorates the Christmas market chalets and the windows of the historic center. Labeled “Alsace terre textile”, it is also declined in tableware items (napkins, tablecloths, placemats, aprons) made locally and available at the Boutique aux Etoffes.

For the past 11 years, the fabric has also been entrusted to local designers who work it according to their inspiration. Result: a unique collection of accessories, clothing or even festive decorations.
