Wesserling Park - Textile Museum

The Fabrics Museum

The building was erected in 1819 to meet the increasing demand for printed fabrics, and now houses the Wesserling fabrics museum. From the raw material (cotton) to fabric, it tells the story of the industrial adventure that took place on this site and enchants the eye with astonishing exhibitions of fabric art.

The Park

The landscaped park (17.00a) is a unique reminder of the fabrics industry in Alsace. It is made up of 4 prestigious gardens that include a château (1699), ornamental lakes, large houses, factories inherited from the former royal workshops and a fabrics museum. The entire site is listed in the supplementary Historic Monuments inventory.
It is also a pleasant place in which to walk along the paths and drives and enjoy the harmonious symmetry of the French-style garden, the romantic charm of the English-style garden, the gentle intimacy of Mediterranean terraces and the authentic flavours of the kitchen gardens, which were built to model those built by the King at Versailles.

“Festival des Jardins Métissés” (Festival of Hybrid Gardens)

Throughout the summer, the Parc de Wesserling hosts the “Festival des Jardins Métissés”, which gives visitors an opportunity to discover 8 extraordinary, short-lived gardens. Artists are invited to mix flowers with vegetables and to keep to a theme that is closely linked to the history of the Wesserling site.

The Farm

Cows, donkeys, sheep, goats, rabbits… many animals have resumed or found their place in the historic farmyard of the former factory bosses. They are used to explain the role of the farm in the industrial system in pace at Wesserling and how hair is turned into fabric. Inside, visitors will find a range of local products and a number of workshops dedicated to “taste”.
The Wesserling farm regularly hosts country markets and has a lovely mountain products shop. It is a delightful centre, providing information and raising awareness about agriculture and the landscapes of the Vosges Mountains.
