With 450 inhabitants at the beginning of the 20th century, Staffelfelden gradually became a town of 3,500 inhabitants thanks to mining development, which is now over.
It has kept signs of this activity through its town planning features, mainly with the "Cité Rossalmend" labelled France's most beautiful industrial district and thanks to its dynamic associations.
The restoration of the old village hall Marie-Louise into a building dedicated to culture and sports offers the population of Staffelfelden an attractive cultural programming.
The River Thur runs through Staffelfelden, which has a railway service and is surrounded by major roads which, however, do not cause pollution to the village.
