This museum is also the most beautiful monument in Mulhouse’s old town: the Hôtel de Ville, a masterpiece of Rhenish Renaissance architecture. Built in 1552 after a fire destroyed the original town hall, the Mulhouse History Museum symbolises the pride of the bourgeois Protestants and the liberties they fought for. Before Mülhausen became part of France in 1798, the hôtel de ville was the centre of the town’s political life. The museum charts the fascinating history of the Free Republic of Mulhouse. The Salle de la Décapole is an information point and the ideal place to begin your tour of the town’s museums.
The Salle de la Décapole is open from Monday to Saturday 10am-6pm, Sundays and Bank Holidays 10am-12pm and 2pm-6pm. Open until 7pm in July and August.
