Fine Arts Museum

The Museum of Fine Arts was founded by a group of local industrialists in the Villa Steinbach, one of the town’s most beautiful 18th-century buildings. The villa was built by an industrialist named Jean Vetter and bought by Georges Steinbach in the 19th century. The museum’s collections cover a wide range of periods and schools ranging from medieval religious paintings to Pieter Bruegel the Younger and through Teniers, Ruysdael, de Boucher and Courbet. The museum also boasts an extensive collection of 19th-century and contemporary art and regularly holds temporary exhibitions. Art lovers can also borrow artworks from the Artothèque, or art library.
