Feldkirch

Located at the edge of the Alsatian plains with the "Vieil Armand" mountain in the background, not too close to the main roads but still easily accessible, Feldkirch is a charming village of about 917 inhabitants.
According to tradition, Feldkirch already existed during the Merovingian era. At the time, central churches gathered believers coming from all around the region. For centuries, Feldkirch had been the "Mother" church to the inhabitants of the villages of Bollwiller, Raedersheim, Undersheim and Pulversheim.

Feldkirch prospered almost only from agriculture until the beginning of the 20th century when the village went through a rapid development with the discovery of a nearby potash deposit. It gave work to half the male population and the village grew with the construction of a Potash Mines workers' and engineers' housing.
Closed in 1954, the specific mining installations were demolished. They were replaced by an industrial estate where small businesses settled and flourished. Feldkirch had a population of over 500 inhabitants in 1960 and has since then continued to grow.
