The Ecomusée adventure began in 1980 when a group of volunteers decided to rebuild and conserve some farmers’ houses in their original village. Over the years the Ecomusée of Alsace has become the largest in Europe. The themes of the museum are life and work in the villages and factories of the 19th and 20th centuries: agriculture, livestock breeding, wine production, mining and crafts. Highlights of the museum’s collections include the beautiful carrousels from village funfairs. The Ecomusée offers fascinating insights into the Alsace of bygone days and is also a great way to discover the rich and varied countryside.
